The US government offers a number of loans and grants to help entrepreneurs initiate small businesses and expand existing ones. Further, some state agencies offer certain grants for businesses like scientific study and development.
There are many loan programs and grants available for small businesses that are offered by the government. Some of them include SBA Loans, USDA Rural Development Loans, Other Federal Loan Programs and Small Business Grants.
SBA stands for Small Business Administration (SBA) and this organization helps small business owners to set up and enhance their businesses further. They do so by enabling them to get loans from financial institutions and private banks. SBA does not give loans to businesses but it is rather a sponsor of loans, which are given by private banks, and additional financial organizations that follow the guidelines of SBA.

The Small Business Innovation Research (SBIR) and Small Business Technology Transfer (SBTT), which belong to, the federal government lent out a certain percentage of R&D funds to eligible small businesses. They also motivate small companies to take up scientific research and thus work towards commercialization.
